An Android app is available to view my mobile website on smartphones. The app does nothing more than opening my mobile site (mobi.bobvansanten.com). So actually, the app serves as a bookmark on a screen of your phone. You can download the app by scanning the QR code or by following this link.
New in Gallery: South China
In the Gallery, I have added a selection of photographs made in South China. We have travelled in the provinces Guangxi, Guizhou and Yunnan. In the selection you can see rice-growing and – harvesting, cormorant-fishing, minorities, religion and the typical villages. Cormorants are not commercially used anymore for fishing, but you can watch demonstrations of this old technique.
Major site update
I have improved the website to make it more suitable for touch screen users. The Gallery, the main part of the site, has been constructed with new software which does not make use of flash. This will make the site accessible for iPad users. The other pages have been redesigned with more buttons instead of hyperlinks, which is more convenient for touch screen users. A mobile site is available for use on smart phones. The mobile site can be self-selected from the home page or can be directly accessed from mobi.bobvansanten.com. Site and travel news can also be directly accessed from news.bobvansanten.com. I hope you like the improvements.
The Great Migration
In February / March we have followed the Great Migration in Tanzania. In this time of the year the herds can be found around the border of the Ngorongoro convervation area (Ndutu) and the Serengeti National Park. This is the area where the Wildebeest are usually calving, in peak days 8000 a day. As the March rains were starting when we arrived in Ndutu, we have seen the herds migrating into the area. It was a magnificant experience. Later this year I will publish a selection of photo’s from this trip in the Gallery.
Cape Town – Sossusvlei – Cape Town
A new gallery has been added: our journey “Cape Town – Sossusvlei – Cape Town” in 2009, travelling along the West Coast of South Africa up to Namibia.
With this gallery, I started to “unflash” my website, having it accessible for iPads. The next months I will convert the other galleries as well.
